David Body is the managing director of Trucksmart and begun operations in 1987. From humble beginnings David gained his experience of all things machinery while still attending school and working on a farm at weekends from the age of 10. Through the week David and his school mates spent their available time watching trucks going past the school. By the age of 12 David had begun working his weekends in a truck depot washing and greasing a fleet of twenty odd trucks. David was ambitious and therefore left the industry to work in trainee management with Woolworths prior to entering the mobile crane industry followed by his return to trucks in 1984, this time as a trainee truck salesperson.

 

David quickly developed and was promoted to used truck manager by 1985 and stayed in that role until 1992 when he first opened the doors of his own business then named North Newcastle Motors at Heatherbrae. By 1994 the name of the business was changed to Trucksmart along with being the national importer for Oshkosh trucks.

 

In 2000 David was appointed as the Volvo Truck dealer for the Newcastle & Hunter Valley region and by the end of 2000 became the market leader for trucks greater than 15 tonne GVM which he held for the following eight years. Throughout the decade David also purchased a national truck and trailer rental business, a Hino franchise, opened a Volvo truck branch in the Hunter valley and purchased a pub, which he says “every Aussie needs to own a pub”

 

After many awards and accolades including Dealer of the Year for both Hino and Volvo, David sold his share of the Hino business, while his Volvo business merged with the Mack brand under a factory outlet. A deal was made between David and the Volvo Group and the business was sold.

 

David spent 10 months with the Volvo Group during the transition of businesses before deciding it was time to relax somewhat and return to his core roots buying and selling used trucks. Already this has proven successful beyond imagination further proving that finding and honest and reliable dealer is hard to find.

 

David is very much a personal man, loves his weekends, has a great sense of humour, and married with a son and three daughters.
